Gear

G$ brought up GPS and running tights in his last comment. I'll probably sound defensive but I think it might be worthwhile to discuss the gear people are using for our little adventure. What do you like or not like etc.

Headwear
Audio
Shirt
Jacket
Shorts/Pants
Socks
Shoes
Watch/HRM

Comments:
Headwear : I prefer one of those jester hats you get at the excalibur casino. Either that or a "grand poobah" water buffalo hat a la the Flintstones.

Audio: I have this little jumpgear thing that accepts jumbdrive USB drives. It is pretty convenient, and 30 bucks. I hold it or stick it in my pocket, but tina has an arm band pouch she puts hers in. I have noticed that I like running more while listening to music. HOWEVAH, the real thing that needs to be solved are earphones. What works for you? Standard ear buds fall out about 1 time per mile for me.

Shirt: Strictly use those dri-fit or cool-max shirts, but not one particular brand. I need to get the long sleeve version for winter tho. I am becoming wimpy about the cold.

Jacket: Have never run with one of these. But if I did it would be "Provided by Perry Ellis International"

Shorts/Pants: Please. running pants are silly. Right up to the point I end up getting them. Then they will be ok. For now, It is typically 'basketball jersey material' shorts.

Socks: I have just used plain old to this point, but wil be getting the moisture/friction efficient kind soon.

Shoes: Have tried NB, ASICS, and Nike. Nike consistently fit me best. Despite my large frame, I have a fairly normal foot I think. Currently looking at the Air Max Tailwind.

Watch/HRM: Have never used either, although I sometinmes run with my cell phone to keep time, and also to be able to call for help if I end up incapacitated miles from home. Plan is to get a HRM in the next month or so.

Headwear: Dri-Fit hat from Nike. About $25 and worth every penny, so essential for long runs.

Audio: iPod, natch. In my hand, all sweaty. Might have to get the G$ solution. This might be the time to mention this... not sure I like running music. Mopey is a theme, and not one that is suited for the motivation task. I need to buy the best hits of the "eye of the tiger" guys.

Shirt: Nike Dri-fit sphere. The real dri-fit, not the imitation Target stuff, which is just a shirt that will fall apart twice as fast.

Jacket: Defer to the swedes on this one

Shorts/Pants: Will only mention standard boxers are a bad idea.

Socks: Will be getting some dri fits soon.

Shoes: Been using Nikes, but I think I am crushing them under my own weight. I have liked Asics in the past, and after a lot of research (I don't pronate, have normal arch, and might be classified as a "large frame") I ordered these

Watch/HRM: I got some German one that does a bunch of stuff.

Ditto Nike Dri-Fit Hat. It rains here all the freaking time and this is an essential. I picked up a headband too but haven't had a non-rainy run yet.

Ipod on one of the armband straps. I have been listening to Audiobooks and it really passes the time. I got a set of Nike u-shaped headphones that go behind my head and stay in place pretty well.

Several long sleeve Nike Dri-Fits (the outlet across the street went out of business and I got a million things for under $10 each).

Nike Dri-Fit jacket w/ vents

DriFit running tights plus some old hoop shorts. Seriously, its cold. I can't emphasize this enough. Plus the tight fitting sleek blackness is slimming.

ThorLo runners that rock. 1 pair w/ Godzilla on them (bright green) that say 'Go Zilla'. 1 pair w/ a crown on them (bright red) that say 'So Far King Fast' and 1 pair that has beer on it (bright yello) which says 'Sock-y Sock-y Oy Oy'.

Motion control . My feet are fat across the bridge and so i always get a wear hole on the inner bulge just below my behind my big toe.

I posted about my watch earlier and I can't stop looking at the Google Earth map of my course although it did rob me of .5 miles yesterday.

Headwear: haven't needed one yet, but I haven't done a really long run yet (nothing over 4 miles)
Audio: MP3 player from Ebay; it is jumpdrive that has an headphone jack, works great
Shirt: anything (cotton or dri-fit)
Jacket: none
Shorts/Pants: soccer pants for now
Socks: wick away (got them for free when I bought the shoes)
Shoes: BROOKS Adrenaline GTS5 (bought them at Fleet Feet running store in Tucson)
Watch/HRM: Forerunner 301

Update on the Gear, returned the shoes referenced above, now have the Asics Gel Kayano. HIGHLY recommended.
