Group Runs

How will the group runs work? Lets start taking suggestions. Most of the 13mg is far east side (all I guess). I would prefer not to run on a track, but that's just me. Saguaro National Park? Old Spanish Trail? Somewhere in Vail? Tucson to Vail on I-10?

Also, want to make sure we come to an understanding about these: my take is these are not competition. Run as fast or slow as you like, doesn't matter. No running in a group so everyone feels included. Any thoughts?

Comments:
Great question Dan. Regarding the second week scheduled group run, I think it goes without saying, that more important than 'where' we run is the fact that you must sing a Ricky Martin tune the whole way. I am pretty sure that is more of a challenge than the actual running part.

Seriosuly though, thanks to the magic of Google Earth (and to a lesser extent car odometers) we can map a course anywhere. Couple items, SNPE is, according to Tina, a challenging topography. She has run the labor day 8(I think) miler there and said there are many hills, and one killer long incline. Reid park is an option, as is Udahl. I can map some 4 milers (lenght of first group run) around my area and post them here. I know for a fact that the 'square' around my house which is bordered by the 4 major streets is almost exactly 4 miles. (one mile street grids).

Lastly, I can make no promises on my participation for group runs, but I will do my best because I think the concept is of great benefit to training.

Lastly, lastly, agree with the competition thing, although if the "winner" gets a "trophy" made of something like canned gravy, was it really a competition to begin with?

On Sept 25th, there is an 8k run around the UofA area http://www.runnroll.org/. Would this be a suitable group run? Around the UofA it should relatively flat course and would be a good taste of running in an organized event. That is something I've never been part of, but everyone that I have spoken to about running has said that it is a great environment to be part of.

Dan's suggestion is on the money. It's not competition. It's purely that we happen to be in the same place at the same time doing the same thing... differently. ;)

Julio's suggestion of the Run 'N' Roll looks excellent also.

I'd suggest my place for running also, but unless y'all like rocks, sandy washes, and inclines it's probably not the best place...

I'll try to make every group run myself. I think that part is critical to the success of this effort for myself. There is no way I'd convince myself to run this far all alone. ;)
